Happy Hour at Del Mar | West Palm Beach

Del Mar sits in the Nora District at 1015 N Railroad Ave, a few blocks back from the noise of Clematis. The patio runs along the side of the building, shaded enough to be usable in early May without melting. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 PM, and the deal is straightforward. Four dollars off dips and flatbreads. Five dollars off signature cocktails. Three dollars off wines by the glass. No tricks, no fine print about which seat you’re in. Bar and patio.

The cocktails

The drink list leans Mediterranean and a little theatrical. The Beach Party is the loudest of the bunch. Aperol with pineapple, lemon, strawberry, and sparkling rosé. It’s pink and wants to be on a postcard. The Hugo Spritz is the quieter pick. St-Germain elderflower with Lillet Blanc, citrus, and fresh mint. Both are 17 to 19 dollars on the menu, which the discount pulls into the 12 to 14 range. Honest pricing for what you’re drinking.

The Old Fashioned is the one I’d order if I were sitting at the bar alone with a book. Buffalo Trace, fig infusion, orange, Angostura. Twenty-one on the menu, sixteen during happy hour. The fig is doing real work here. It doesn’t just sweeten the bourbon, it shifts the whole drink toward something cooler and slightly jammy.

If you’re going dirty, the Dirty Martini swaps the usual juniper-forward presentation for Tito’s with house olive brine and feta-stuffed olives. The feta is the gimmick that earns its keep. It’s salty in a different register than green olives alone, and you taste it through the back end of the drink.

A few others worth noting. The A1A Margarita is built on Milagro Reposado with tropical orange, juicy peach, and what the menu calls “poblano whisper.” It’s lighter than a typical margarita and reads more like a sipping drink. The Espresso Martini uses Cantera Negra Café for body, which gives it a slightly heavier finish than the standard Kahlua build. Golden Hour is the one I keep meaning to try. Amaro Montenegro, Italicus, fresh lemon, and Poema cava for the lift. Eighteen dollars before the discount.

The Sangria Blanca is the pitcher move if you brought a group. Sixty-two for the pitcher, seventeen by the glass. Apricot, blackberry, Assyrtiko white wine, and Watershed apple brandy. Better than the average house sangria.

The food

The food side of happy hour is where the math gets interesting.

The dips and spreads come with house-made pita and run 8 to 9 dollars before the four-dollar discount. That means you can build a small grazing board for under twenty bucks. Hummus, baba ganoush, tzatziki, spicy feta, roasted red pepper. The spicy feta is the one to fight over. The chilled vegetables add-on is eight, and worth it if you want to keep the volume up without ordering a second flatbread.

The Turkish flatbreads are the main event. Three to choose from.

The mushroom is the sleeper. Cheapest of the three and arguably the most balanced once the caramelized onion does its thing under the havarti. The lamb sausage is the showy one. If you’ve had Turkish-style sucuk or merguez before, you’ll recognize the register, and you’ll know whether you want it. The tomato and olive is the middle path, and the one to order when half the table is vegetarian.

If you wanted to push it to a real meal, two flatbreads, two dips, and a drink each lands around eighty before tip for two people, with leftovers. That’s the kind of math that makes the patio at 4 PM more attractive than dinner at 7.

The weekend program

If you’re in town on a Saturday or Sunday, the brunch program is its own thing.

Eleven to three, both days. The hook is half-priced Veuve Clicquot by the glass and bottle from 11 AM onward, plus a “Réserve Cuvée” champagne feature at half off. Sunday from noon to 3 PM, DJ Cat Shell plays. It’s the closest thing to a breezy Mediterranean afternoon you’ll get in West Palm without driving south.

The patio fills first on weekday afternoons in season. Show up at 4 if you want a table outside without waiting. Parking in Nora is street and a small lot, both manageable on a weekday but tight on Sunday.

A note for the dietary-conscious. The flatbreads with lamb sausage are pork-free, but the kitchen handles pork in other dishes, so cross-contact is a question worth asking your server if it matters. Ask about the bread and the cheeses too. The dips and most flatbread toppings are vegetarian-friendly.

What Del Mar is trying to be

Nora is the new bet for downtown West Palm. Restored warehouses, a wine bar two doors down, a coffee shop in the same row. Del Mar slotted into that on purpose. The food is closer to coastal Mediterranean than steakhouse. The room is built for the patio. The pricing during happy hour is tuned to bring in the after-work crowd from CityPlace and the offices around Quadrille.

If you want a steak-and-bourbon night, this isn’t that. If you want pita, a flatbread, an Aperol something, and two hours of patio time before sunset, the math at happy hour is the best version of itself you’ll find within walking distance.
