Can an AI SOC run without any human analysts?

Table of Contents

In practice, no. AI SOC platforms are designed to reduce the analyst workload, not eliminate it entirely. Humans are still essential for policy decisions, edge-case investigations, and approving high-impact response actions like isolating critical production systems.

However, an AI SOC dramatically changes staffing requirements. A traditional SOC requires 5 to 7 analysts to maintain 24/7 coverage. An AI SOC can reduce that requirement significantly because the AI handles the repetitive volume, and analysts focus on oversight and exception handling.

Gartner projects that by 2028, AI will automate more than 50% of Tier 1 SOC analyst tasks. The framing is augmentation rather than replacement.
